Fallen Trees frontman Paul Littlewood emerged as fading darkness, carrying his amp and guitar the shortest distance he’d ever had to travel to a gig in a lifetime of music inspired by a childhood trip to the Leadmill to see Louisiana Red.

50 years ago in Georgia, Brooks Williams, like any self-respecting southern youngster, dismissed the roots of the ethnomusicologists as something for the old folks. After moving to New England he realised that all those rock and roll bands embraced by any self-respecting young man were actually re-interpreting those same roots…

For the last few years Paul has been releasing his solo work through the Los Angeles-based Three Sixty Records, stripped down to a powerful voice, honourable intentions and poignant, well-crafted songs.

Mr Williams, with Andy Seward on double bass and Keith Angel on drums, delivered an elegant and determinedly upbeat combination of a little jazz with a lot of blues and bits of country and folk; the use of storytelling, reinterpretations and original compositions merged with long-ago sounds representing a lifetime on the roads of the world.

As has become custom with Big Boulder Promotions, Mr Angel also ensured seamless sound inside (and outside) the Grade II listed former chapel of Heeley.
