On Saturday, December 14th 2013, award winning composer and musician Chris Wood performed at the Institute, celebrating a year of roots music in Heeley.
His affable interaction with the audience and deceptively gentle delivery encouraged a righteous anger with the facade of democracy, love songs for grown-ups and a comical view of the absurdities of an era where little still exists in tangible form.
Representing a form of story-telling that has moved with time around the fire, through taverns, boxcars and coffee-houses, Chris used the seemingly innocuous stories between songs to plant seeds of concepts and ideas that linger longest after the curtain falls.
The intimate acoustics, cinematic lighting, site specific seating and set design inside the Grade II listed former chapel has been providing a forum for an audience who cares about how they consume their music ever since the Heeley Development Trust partnered with Four Rivers Promotions to establish the Big Boulder Rolls On.
